💔🧠Power EQ vs. Sacred EQ: When Emotional Intelligence Becomes Emotional Manipulation
Why the performance of empathy isn’t the same as the presence of it—and why we must reclaim emotional intelligence as a sacred act, not a strategic one.

Emotional intelligence is not a soft skill. It is a threshold. A requirement. A rite of passage.
There’s a certain relatively new book, by a well-known author, who writes about EQ. And yeah, he writes well. But after reading through it today, I had to write this piece—because the way he talks about EQ and the way I do? Not the same at all.
(I’m honestly exhausted today. And sometimes it hits me—if I just stop scrolling, stop checking if the world got any “better” today… there’s peace in that. In stepping back. In letting my mind and EQ rest. Sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed.)
Lately I’ve been scrolling and seeing more people talk about emotional intelligence, which—yes—is a good thing. I’m glad it’s becoming part of the conversation. But there’s also a shift happening.
And I feel like I have to say this—right now.
Out of my chest. Out of my brain. Out of my system.
Because what I’m seeing isn’t just EQ as a path to healing—
I’m seeing and feeling EQ being used as a tool for manipulation.
It’s IQ dressed up as EQ—strategic writing designed to emotionally charge the reader, make them feel “deep,” feel smart, feel elevated… but really, it’s just feeding the ego (again). The writer’s ego and the reader’s ego. More of the same propaganda.
And that ego?
It feeds the same machine.
The same simulation.
The same Matrix we’re all trying to break out of.
Writing about EQ shouldn’t be fueling the system.
But too much of it still is.
And that’s the line.
This post is the line.
Because the way I talk about EQ is through love, through resonance, through truth.
Not strategy. Not persuasion. Not control.
🌀 Introduction: The Weaponization of Empathy
We’re in the middle of an “emotional intelligence renaissance.”
You’ve probably seen the books, the reels, the leadership coaches—
“Learn empathy!”
“Master EQ to become more persuasive!”
“Read emotions and redirect them toward your desired outcome.”
But something in that narrative has always felt… wrong.
And now I’m ready to name it:
There’s a difference between Power EQ and Sacred EQ.
And we need to start talking about it.
🧠 What Is Power EQ?
Power EQ is emotional intelligence hijacked by performance culture.
It looks like:
Saying “I understand you” to lower someone’s guard.
Mirroring emotions in order to sell, persuade, or redirect.
Studying human behavior not to connect, but to control.
Power EQ is what marketers, politicians, influencers, and manipulators learn to do when they realize that true dominance in today’s world doesn’t come from logic. It comes from emotional leverage.
This version of EQ is slick, performative, and dangerous.
Because it makes people feel seen—but only long enough to be redirected.
🕊️ What Is Sacred EQ?
Sacred EQ is emotional intelligence in service of resonance.
It looks like:
Holding space for another without trying to fix or reframe.
Feeling what someone feels without the urge to use it.
Naming the unspeakable in a room because it needs to be honored.
Sacred EQ isn’t a tactic.
It’s a frequency.
It comes from stillness, empathy, and a deep desire to witness, not manipulate.
It doesn’t seek to win.
It seeks to remember.
To remind.
To restore.
It doesn’t say: “I understand you so I can convince you.”
It says: “I feel you. And I trust you’ll choose what’s aligned.”
“Sacred EQ is when you cry without shame, lead without manipulation, and love without needing applause. It is not charisma—it is resonance.”
I may have written those words—
but my mother lived them long before I ever could.
This line isn’t just a definition.
It’s a reflection of the love I was raised inside of.
A love that never needed applause to give,
never manipulated to lead,
never shamed emotion into silence.
She didn’t call it Sacred EQ.
She just called it being my mom.
From my first breath, I was held without condition.
Fed without resentment.
Seen without distortion.
Everything I understand about resonance,
about emotional sovereignty,
about what it means to love without agenda—
was taught to me in her presence, not her words.
So if this quote moves you…
Know it began in the quiet heartbeat of a woman
who gave her life so I could remember mine.
This line was mine to write.
But it was always hers to live.
a quote that my mom embodies... the kind of unconditional love that I received everyday since the moment of my birth... my first breath as a baby...
⚖️ Why the Distinction Matters Now
Because we’re in an era where people are waking up to how deeply they’ve been emotionally played.
From dating apps to corporate coaching…
From political campaigns to influencer marketing…
We are being emotionally manipulated with smiles, empathy language, and “vulnerability” that isn’t rooted in truth—but in performance.
And many of us—especially those with big hearts and open fields—have been on the receiving end of Power EQ for years, wondering why we feel drained or confused after conversations that were “emotionally intelligent.”
You weren’t crazy. You were soul-baited.
🌱 Reclaiming EQ as a Sacred Practice
It’s time to stop teaching EQ as a persuasion tool.
It’s time to start teaching it as a sacred act of remembering.
Teach people to feel without leveraging.
Teach people to name emotions without turning them into strategy.
Teach people to honor feelings—not rehearse them.
Sacred EQ doesn’t convert followers. It cultivates freedom.
✨ Closing
This isn’t about calling out names.
It’s about reclaiming language.
Because there are many people in this world using “empathy” as a disguise—
and fewer who are living it as a devotion.
I know which side I’m on.
Which side are you?
Let’s rise.
